Feza International School – Arusha
The Ishik Medical and Education Foundation is proud to offer international education in the great Tanzanian city of Arusha. The school has grown considerably in recent years and now offers top quality international education for both Kindergarten (Early Years) and Primary. Our Kindergarten curriculum is adapted from the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum and Primary is based on the Cambridge Primary Curriculum content of Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE). As a result, our students gain extensively from the centuries of educational expertise that is focused on preparing them adequately for the challenges they will face in their educational career and beyond.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework supports an integrated approach to early learning and care which highlights 7 different areas of learning and development:
- Communication and language development.
- Physical development.
- Personal, social, and emotional development.
- Literacy development.
- Understanding the world.
- Expressive arts and design
In addition, the EYFS focuses on four themes which describe the features of practice on which EYFS is based:
- A Unique Child
- Positive Relationships
- Enabling Environments
- Learning and Development
Primary Learner Attributes
In addition to the application of Cambridge curricula and assessment standards for English, Maths and Science, we also recognise that students need to develop attitudes and life skills throughout their education, as well as academic skills, in order to be successful at university and in employment. The 5 highlighted learner attributes we aim to develop in our students are:
- Confident in working with information and ideas – their own and those of others
- Responsible for themselves, responsive to and respectful of others
- Reflective as learners, developing their ability to learn
- Innovative and equipped for new and future challenges
- Engaged intellectually and socially, ready to make a difference
Extra-Curricular activities offer opportunities for our students to learn new skills, explore different activities, develop talents and deepen existing expertise, share experiences with new friends and establish relationships with supportive adults. At present, we offer an extensive variety of activities to stimulate and excite our students based on: robotics, art (& crafts), music (singing & dance), environmental awareness, tradition and culture, team sports, health and well-being (yoga, skipping), charity, cooking and many more…
We believe passionately that allowing students to work together provides priceless opportunities to demonstrate engagement with a specified topic or discipline, that goes beyond just preparing for an examination. Integrating project work into the process of teaching and learning allows students to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, the ability to innovate and think outside the box, team work and communication skills and the opportunity to reflect from a more objective perspective. Enhancing these skills will play a vital role in preparing students to become competent and highly motivated life-long learners in the 21st century.
Golden Time takes place every Friday morning and is a positive behaviour management strategy where all our Early Years and Primary students come together and spend time doing special, enjoyable activities that aren’t on offer at other points during the school week. A range of activities, events, assemblies, performances, ceremonies, etc. are carefully planned and delivered as part of the school’s policy of rewarding positive behavior.
House Point System
Each student is placed in one of our four Houses – Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. Throughout each term, students are focused on earning House Points (both individually and collectively) for either excellent academic performance or outstanding contributions to the school community. The House Point System provides exceptional opportunities for students to become deeply integrated in their own learning experience in the following ways:
- Reward System (including Star of the Week)
- Belonging and community
- Every student has the opportunity to contribute
- Stimulating curiosity and creativity
- Trying new things and competing in new areas
- Leadership and responsibility
